If you want to perform these functions, and know how to do it quickly with your Noatation Software, then you should continue to use that.

However, many people wanting to use MusicXML files may have a hard time performing basic functions in notation software. If that is you you might find this site very hekpful.

    Software Developers

If you are writing your own software and want to include functions like these, you will find the access to our source code very heloful. If there are things you would like to add, or similar routines you would find helpful, you can ask us to provide them. • Can I use this on my own Web Site or Applications

Adjust My Music is Open Source Software. You can use it on your own web pages or in your own software.

  • View and Play

  • How does view and playwork?

You can view and pring your score. Either your original score, or the score you have modified.

During play-back you can pause the score, change the tempo, or set a range to play and repeat (for learning and practice)

  • Transpose

  • How does Transpose work?

You specify the new key and we tranpose notes, chord, the key signature, and evev rest positions if you have rests not on the centerline or the staff.

The transposition is done usine a "circle of 5ths" method. This helps with the oroblem of how to translate notes when basically going to the same key. Foe example, when transposing from C to G#, an F# note or chord in the original key is translated differently than it would be if you were transposing from C to Ab - even thougn they note on the piano in G# and Ab are the same.

  • Add Bass

  • What would I use Add Bass for?

One use it to take a leadsheet and add a very simple accompaniment to it - as a start point for further improvisation, or for use when accompanying choir, or helping a vocalist learn the part.

  • Add Solo Section

  • What is Add Solo Section used for?

This adds a section to you score with just Chords to be used when soloing.

This lets you compose solos without being distracted by the existing notes, rhythms or lyrics. (You can optionally include lyrics).

You can specify which bars to include in the solo area. Typically this would be the chorus.

  • Trim Score

  • What would I use Trim for?

Trim lets you easily select the measures and even notes in the first and last measure, and trim the score.

You might find MusicXML for a song, but want to isolate only a part of the song for study, or inckusing in another score,

  • Voice Leading

  • What would I use Voice Leading for?

If you want to play a simple bass and right hand under an existing melody, provinging an accompaniment for a vocalist or solist - but not necessarily duplicating the melody notes, then Voice Leading provides a good solution.

It places chord notes kn a new staff, based on the chord specified in the lead sheet. Add it used voice leading to minimize right hand movement and also to provide satisfying resolution of Dominant 7ths and other tritones.

You can use these chord voicings for simple comping, or as a basic for more complicated playing which you would improvise as you played.

  • Melody Chords

  • What would I use Trim for?

If you want to play a simple bass and right hand just below an existing melody, and including the melody notes in the Melody Chords provides a good starting point.

It places several chord notes below the melody, based on the chord specified in the lead sheet.
